Massage
Outside of the workplace, Swedish Massage, using a portable massage table, is available from myself Richard Cantle. Neck, shoulder and back pain arising from lifestyle or sports injuries can be helped, and very often resolved.
I provide the highest standard of professional care and a relaxed friendly atmosphere.
What are your qualifications ?
I'm qualified via ITEC in Anatomy Physiology and Massage and in Acupressure for On Site Massage through the On Site Massage Association. You can check my business and professional registration with my professional association Embody by following any of the links on the site.
What type of massage do you do ?
Swedish Massage. Not to be confused with spa or beauty treatments; clients seek table massage to aid recovery from muscular injuries which occur during everyday activity, or as a result of sporting activity.
Benefits of massage
Do you recommend a specific number of treatments ?
No. However, after your first appointment I will give you an indication of how established a problem might be. Follow up visits are at your discretion, and dependent on the nature of your injury and how you respond. Some clients benefit fully after one visit. Others need more, where an injury has been present for sometime. If I don't think I can help you, I will give you that advice. I may recommend a referral to your GP or an Osteopath.
Does massage hurt ?
No. Clients have often said to me that their previous experience of massage has been painful or superficial. Each client is different and the pressure of massage strokes are based on your feedback. A Practitioner should be asking you for feedback. While deep massage is sometimes necessary, the overall aim is to relax and release tension within muscle groups.
Is prevention better than cure ?
Yes. As a competitive cyclist that's why I've used massage for around 15 years. Some clients use massage for maintenance, perhaps on a 3 monthly basis. It's excellent for reducing the risk of minor injuries becoming chronic, particularly if you work out, or take part in a sport.
What if I'm under the care of my GP or NHS Physio's ?
A Complementary Practitioner, works in partnership with the Medical Profession. I've experience of working in conjunction with existing GP and NHS Physiotherapy treatment.
If you're under the care of your GP for a medical condition which may be influenced by massage, I must obtain their consent to treat you. This is routine for ITEC Professionals, and usually only takes 3-5 days
Why do a consultation to give someone a massage ?
It's a requirement for ITEC Professionals. Our primary aim is "to do no harm" and benefit your health. In a small number of cases Massage is contraindicated, because it could make an illness or health condition worse. The consultation is a two way process designed to:
Do I have to remove clothing ?
The only clothing that you remove is around the area that's being worked on and client modesty is never compromised. For a back massage it's more comfortable to wear shorts over your underwear to allow access to the low back. The legs are covered completely with towels. For female clients receiving a back massage, if you are comfortable doing so, you can loosen your bra, when face down on the massage table to allow full access to the back muscles.
If you are receiving a back and leg massage, when a leg is being worked on, all other areas are covered with towels.
Where do you work ?
For Corporate Clients, or, if you are referred by an existing client, I can either see you at my home, or subject to a suitable working area, visit your home, within a 20 mile radius of Newcastle City Centre.
Ethics & confidentiality ?
Embody Professionals operate to a strict code of ethics governing the professional relationship between Practitioner and Client. Any breach of these leaves a Practitioner open disciplinary, legal action and removal from the Public Register of professionals.
There is no discussion with anyone about any aspect of your treatment.
Still unsure whether it will help ?
Give me a call and talk it through. An initial face to face consultation is free, where we decide that it's not appropriate to proceed with massage.
Please telephone to discuss your requirements.
